Chailey triumphs at National County Showjumping Championships
On Saturday 22nd April Chailey School's newly formed Equestrian Team took part in the National County Showjumping Championships held at Bury Farm in Buckinghamshire.
The team gained their place by beating all of the local private and state schools in the East Sussex Championships back in the Autumn.
The team did amazingly well and we are all so proud of Jasmine Pierce, Cerys Kelly, Lily Kianfar and Tilly Appleyard.
It was a very tough competition with 148 riders in total, competing in more than 30 teams.
All of the riders did exceptionally well and we finished with three clear rounds out of eight. The girls rode with accomplishment, maturity and confidence, and the care and support they showed each other was truly amazing.
Throughout the day the team were in contention for a rosette and only dropped out of the top 8 with the final riders of the day. The team were the second fastest team of the day as well - a fantastic achievement!
Chailey School can be rightly proud that the team finished a commendable eleventh and were placed as the TOP STATE SCHOOL IN THE COUNTRY. Just one less pole down would have secured a prize.
Well done to everyone, especially the parents, family and friends who made the whole experience possible. Thank you also to Mrs Key and Miss Thompson and all the student supporters for travelling to Bury Farm in Buckinghamshire to cheer the team along! We were definitely the best supported team competing.
The next event for the team is at Hickstead on the 28th May and we wish them the best of luck.
