Galactic Challenge

On Saturday, ten Year 7 and 8 students travelled to Bede's School to carry out the Galactic Challenge. The pupils were given a brief to design the first space settlement in a cycler orbit, crossing the orbits of Earth and Mars. The pupils were divided into two teams and had to work with students from other schools to come up with a proposal which they later presented in front of panel of judges and about 300 others! The pupils did very well, coming up with ideas ranging from a robot snake to fit into small spaces and fix engines, to how to produce oxygen for the people on board using the electrolysis of water.
