Sussex Wildlife Trust on Chailey Common
A small group of students representing all year groups have been working with Sussex Wildlife Trust on Chailey Common, taking part in conservation projects.
Sophie Mills commented “Chailey School was invited to take part in the Conservation Project at Chailey Common with Sussex Wildlife. In the current climate it is frequently rainy and the flood risk is high. The aim was to slow the flow of the river and direct it over the common; preventing the risk of flooding in towns.
We were taught how to safety cut down trees, cur away the brush and to make natural damns wit the resources we collected. This would allow for natural pools to be created and furthermore this made more habitat for local wildlife.
This opportunity helped us develop new skills and it was an amazing project to be a part of.”
