Windrush 70 Creative Writing Competition
Students in years 9 and 10 entered a creative writing competition at the beginning of the year, writing a short story or poem that celebrated the contribution that the Windrush generation have made to British society. The 70th anniversary of Windrush has been a controversial one with headlines about false deportations and subsequent apologies from the government. Students enjoyed learning about this fascinating bit of British history and two students have won their age categories: Erin Cleaver and Isabel Jesson. Their reward is to visit the houses of parliament and have afternoon tea with David Lammy, MP. They are also in the final four of the competition and on November, 12th the overall winner will be announced with £250 of high street vouchers on offer.
