Transition 2020

A Message from Transition Manager and Year 7 Student Support Manager, Ms Hickman

Hello Year 6 students, parents and carers.

My name is Jennie Hickman, and I am the Transition Manager at Chailey School. I am also your Student Support Manager for Year 7 once you are here with us.

Unfortunately, we are unable to run our usual transition days in July, but I am hoping that I will be able to visit most of you in your primary schools, and if the situation changes, we will of course do all we can to open our school to you for a visit.

We have created this tab on our school website to share lots of information with you, and for you to get to meet some members of staff, all be it virtually.

I hope that over the coming weeks you will enjoy some of the video clips, activities, and finding out some facts about your new school and teachers.  Try and check in each week, as there will be new video clips for you to watch. Below is a welcome message from our Head Teacher, Mrs Key.

I also know that you will all have some brilliant questions, and I will start to create a FAQ section in the tab.  I need you to email me any worries or questions you have, and I will then answer them on here.

Please email jhickman@chaileyschool.org

Looking forward to meeting you all soon.

A Message from English Teacher, Miss Bennett

Hi Year 6,
At Chailey School, we love reading.
Reading is so important in helping students to be successful, and it is great for our mental health too. We hope that you are doing lots of reading to help you to relax in lockdown.
Below are some books that we think you will really enjoy and that would also be great for you to read, before you start Year 7, because they explore some of the issues, topics and themes that we will be covering.  Perhaps you could choose one of these for your reading task from Mrs Hickman? Or could you earn your first English Superstar status (twenty reward points) by reading and reviewing three:
  • A Most Improper Magick by Stephanie Burgis
  • Coraline by Neil Gaiman
  • When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit by Judith Kerr
  • The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Rauf
Email your completed reviews to: ebennett@chaileyschool.org.
Good luck!
